Molded Lightguide Backlighting
This comparison of Molded Lightguide technology vs. Direct LED backlighting shows how the use of a molded LED lightguide between the PC board and keypad can tightly focus the light as it enters the thru-holes to the keypad, reducing the number of LEDs required.
Direct LED Backlighting
The diversion features molded into the molded lightguide (above) eliminate diffusion and scatter of the light produced by the LED as compared to the direct LED backlighting method (at left), resulting in better uniformity.
